Manchester United take on Southampton in the Premier League on Wednesday evening and could be just two points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table, so a victory is a must against a side fighting for their lives at the bottom.
United have been impressive in recent weeks and do seem desperate to win the title back from their rivals this campaign. This should be a straight forward evening for the Red Devils as well given the quality they have at their disposal.
Sir Alex Ferguson is never one to take a side lightly though and he is sure to put out a full strength side for this one.
If United grab themselves an early goal, then the floodgates could open and it might be a very enjoyable evening for the Scotsman. There are no surprises in the odds from the bookmakers for this one either as the home side are the 1/4 favourites with Bet365.
If at their best, then this will be a game that Man United win by a few goals.
It has been a strange few weeks for Southampton as Nigel Adkins was of course sacked as manager and Mauricio Pochettino was immediately appointed as his successor.
For that reason, betting on what the Saints might do this campaign is tough as you don’t know what to expect from them. The Argentinean boss has had over a week to work with them on the training ground now, so might have some of his new ideas installed in the squad.
It is going to be tough for Southampton to get anything here though and Pochettino might be looking to avoid a hiding. If you do fancy the visiting team causing one of the shocks of the season, then you can back them at 14/1 with Stan James.
The bookies are sure to take a number of bets on what the correct score might be and at the moment, a comfortable 2-0 win for Manchester United is the most likely as it is at 8/1 with BetVictor.
If Southampton are to win, then a 2-1 victory seems to be the best bet, but it is still out at 40/1 with Coral.
The football that Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney have played over recent weeks has been right out of the top draw and we fancy one of these two to score two goals or more in this one.
Van Persie is currently at 11/4 to grab a brace, with Rooney looking like good value at 5/1 with Coral.
Wednesday evening is a busy night of Premier League action and Manchester United will hope there are no hiccups in this one. Southampton can cause problems though, so it might be an interesting 90 minutes.
