Manchester United v Chelsea Betting Preview

The Super Sunday fixture in the Premier League this weekend sees Manchester United entertain Chelsea at Old Trafford in what should be a scintillating 90 minutes of action.

United have of course been crowned as champions, so the pressure is off them in this one, whereas the Blues are in third position and need a result to take another big step towards the Champions League.

This will be the fifth time these two have locked horns this campaign, but only the second meeting at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils drew 1-1 at Arsenal last time out, which of course means they cannot break Chelsea’s record points tally in the Premier League, but you can be sure they will be going all out for a victory here.

As they are on home soil, Sir Alex Ferguson’s men are being tipped as the favourites with the bookmakers and you can back them at 5/4 with William Hill.

United have won 14 of their last 15 home matches in the Premier League, so Old Trafford has been somewhat of a fortress and it is always tough to look past placing a bet on the champions with the football they have been playing this season.

As for Chelsea, this is certainly a bigger game for them than it is Man United and the pressure could be well-and-truly on them as both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur play on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues should be on a high after making it through to the Europa League final on Thursday evening and although Rafael Benitez will make a number of changes, spirits in the squad should be good.

With how strong they have been in recent weeks, backing a Chelsea win could prove to be good value at 23/10 with BetVictor.

Benitez’s men have won just once in their last six league matches away from home, so they do struggle on the road and know just how tough this encounter is going to be.

As ever, betting on the first goal-scorer is going to be popular in this one, especially as we should see some top quality attacking football.

Robin van Persie is in scintillating form at the moment and he is the 9/2 favourite with Bet365 to break the deadlock this weekend.

Demba Ba is likely to come back into the Chelsea starting eleven and he can be backed at 7/1 with Ladbrokes to score the first goal in this one.

We like the look of bets in the first goal-scorer market as well and think that David Luiz scoring the first goal of the game is good value at 25/1 with 888sport.

The Super Sunday fixture looks to be a cracker this weekend.
