Manchester City v Liverpool Betting Preview

The Super Sunday fixture this weekend sees Manchester City host Liverpool in the Premier League and it should be a cracking encounter between two sides that love to play attacking football.

The Citizens could be a massive ten points adrift of Manchester United by the time this one kicks-off, so the pressure will really be on them to pick up a win, whereas Liverpool are trying to pick up points to challenge for the top four in the Premier League.

Both were left frustrated with their games in mid-week as City could only manage a 0-0 draw at bottom club Queens Park Rangers and the Reds let a two-goal lead slip at Arsenal and ended up drawing 2-2.

As they are on home soil, the onus will be on Roberto Mancini’s men to come and attack in this one and if at their best, it should be a good afternoon for the champions.

They have played some cracking football in recent weeks and in truth, had the chances to beat QPR on Tuesday.  Mancini knows his men have to be clinical in front of goal on Sunday. At the moment, City have odds of 5/6 with SkyBet to win this one.

As for Liverpool, the performance at Arsenal summed up their season really – brilliant at times, but it went wrong very quickly. If they want Champions League football, then Brendan Rodgers’ side need to learn to close out a game, especially against the teams at the top of the table.

It has been a tough run of fixtures for the Merseyside outfit, but they have played well in patches and if they perform from start to finish, they could cause an upset in this one.

It is going to be tough of course, but Liverpool should not fear City and should look to attack them right from the off. If you fancy a bet on an away win, they can be backed at 7/2 with Betfred.

The bookmakers are sure to be taking plenty of bets on the first goal-scorer market with plenty of attacking talent on show.

The current favourite to break the deadlock is Sergio Aguero as he is at 9/2 with Bet365.

Then you have Luis Suarez at 7/1 with Coral to score first, which could prove to be popular with people betting on this encounter.

Where we think the value is though is in the correct score market and we fancy City to claim a comfortable 3-1 victory. The chances of this happening are rated at 15/1 with BetVictor.

There should be an electric atmosphere inside the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon and a scintillating 90 minutes is all but guaranteed.
