The Super Sunday fixture in the Premier League this weekend sees Sunderland make the journey to West London to take on Fulham at Craven Cottage. The two sides are in very different spirits right now, with Fulham sitting in the top half and Sunderland just three points ahead of the bottom three.
Martin Jol has assembled a very good squad with the Cottagers and they are now unbeaten in their last five matches in the league – form that sees them in ninth position. Jol’s men do not look like being in a relegation battle this campaign, but the Dutchman will want his side to get to that all important 40 point mark as soon as possible.
Craven Cottage has become somewhat of a fortress this season as well, with Manchester City being the only team to win at the home of Fulham in the Premier League.
Many football bets are likely to be placed on a home win on Sunday afternoon as well and you can back that happening at 3/4 with Paddy Power.
As for Sunderland, they will be extremely disappointed with their season and they could even start the weekend in the bottom three if results go against them this weekend, which would really pile the pressure on the Black Cats.
It has been scoring goals, even creating chances that has been the problem for them as they have netted just seven times in the flight – which makes them the lowest scorers in the league right now.
Martin O’Neil certainly has the players with enough quality to move up the table and come out on top in this one, but he must reinstall the confidence in the camp. O’Neil knows that another defeat would leave some people questioning if he is the right man to be at the helm of this Sunderland side. A win here though could really kick-start the season and Sunderland are being offered at 17/4 with Bet365 to take the spoils.
There are certainly some very talented strikers on show, so betting on the first goalscorer is sure to be popular with many. There is no surprise that Fulham’s main man at the moment, Dimitar Berbatov is amongst the favourites as he is at 5/1 with Coral.
The player who has scored five of Sunderland’s seven goals this campaign, Steven Fletcher, is then a 15/2 shot with William Hill.
For even more value on your bet for this encounter though, head into the half-time/full-time market and we fancy Fulham to be leading at the break, but Sunderland pegging them back and the points being shared. The chances of this happening are rated at 18/1 with Stan James.
It should be a very interesting watch between these two teams that on their day, are a match for anyone in the top flight.
